Repairing a SANDEN 51586-17890 Temperature Controller
Project Overview
A family member who works in construction recently reached out because the blower speeds 3 & 4 weren’t working on their Kawasaki mini loader. Naturally, I offered to take a look at the SANDEN 51586-17890 TKS-CP152A0 Temperature Controller.
Opening and Inspecting the Controller
Since I wasn’t in front of the equipment, I couldn’t fully test it, but I opened up the controller to see if anything was immediately obvious. On first glance, there was nothing visibly wrong. I decided to dig a bit deeper.
Identifying Faulty MOSFETs
After careful inspection, I found a few open MOSFETs. They weren’t easy to spot due to the surrounding circuitry, but once identified, it was clear these were the culprits behind the missing blower speeds.
Removing Defective Components
I used my hot air rework station to remove the defective components and verify that nothing else in the circuit was damaged. This step confirmed that I didn’t need to order any additional parts beyond the MOSFETs themselves.
Installing New MOSFETs
Once the replacement components arrived, I carefully installed them, using my recommended flux and hot air rework techniques. After soldering, I performed additional measurements with my Fluke multimeter to ensure that everything looked good electronically.
Repair Results
With the MOSFETs replaced and the circuit verified, the SANDEN controller was ready to go back into the mini loader. This repair restored blower speeds 3 & 4, and the loader cab temp control was fully operational again.
Tips & Conclusion
If you’re interested in attempting similar electronics repairs, I highly recommend using quality tools, including flux, hot air rework, and a reliable Fluke multimeter. These tools make it much easier to work safely and accurately on sensitive electronics.
Even though this controller repair was a bit tricky due to the MOSFETs being hidden in the circuit, careful inspection, proper tools, and methodical testing allowed me to bring it back to life without needing to replace anything else.
